Kulbardi, Kooya and the Bibbulmun Fund proudly announce our support of Initj Benang, a Rites of Passage camp aimed at Aboriginal Youth, particularly boys ages 12 to 16.
Hosted by Cultural Corridors, a group of young individuals and their families joined Noongar Elder Kim Collard, Uncle Noel Nannup and others for Initj Benang, which helped the participants become more acquainted with culture and the journey towards manhood.
Uncle Noel Nannup expresses a key learning: “Key takeaway is satisfaction. This has taught me how important timing is, however, while the timing was not right before it (most definitely is now) and I take great satisfaction knowing that our team, including the sponsors, have begun to make a massive change in the future and lives of the people who belong to the longest continuous and most broken culture on the planet."
The support from the Bibbulmun Fund and Social Reinvestment WA has allowed the pilot camp to be run and provided the basis for growing the platform, whilst helping to ensure the initial follow-up steps of providing some mentoring support to the participants can be achieved.
We are honoured to have supported Initj Benang through the Bibbulmun Fund.
